What's changing
In August 2026 Walmart updated its code of conduct to close the market in transferred, shared, sold or rented seller accounts, and in anyone using an account they are not properly authorized to run. Misrepresenting who owns an account is covered too. Selling a whole business is still allowed; selling only the account is not. For sellers who already follow the existing rules, the change mostly reinforces expectations around account security and who has access.
Who's affected: Any Walmart Marketplace seller, especially brands that share logins with agencies or contractors, and anyone buying or selling an established seller account.
What to do about it
- Check that the business name and ownership details on your Walmart account match who actually operates it.
- Replace shared logins with named users and remove access for anyone who no longer works on the account.
- Do not buy, sell or lend a seller account; if you are selling a business, transfer it through Walmart's own process.
