Listing Suppression occurs when Amazon removes an active product listing from search results, making it invisible to buyers and ineligible for the Buy Box — even though the listing still exists in Seller Central. The product is not deleted; it is simply hidden until the underlying issue is resolved.
Common Causes of Suppression
- Missing required attributes: Amazon periodically updates its listing requirements by category. If a required field (e.g., material type, item volume, product weight) is added to your category after your listing was created, Amazon may suppress the listing until the attribute is filled in.
- Price policy violations: If your price is significantly above Amazon's reference price (the "high price" threshold), the listing may be suppressed to protect buyers.
- Image violations: Images that don't meet Amazon's requirements (minimum 1000×1000px, white background for main image, no text or watermarks) trigger suppression.
- Safety and compliance: Products requiring documentation (Prop 65, ASTM standards, CPSC compliance) may be suppressed pending certificate upload.
- Restricted product categories: Products that require approval to sell may be suppressed if approval is revoked.
How to Find Suppressed Listings
In Seller Central: Inventory → Manage Inventory → click the "Suppressed" tab. This shows all ASINs currently suppressed with the reason listed.
Alternatively: Inventory → Inventory Health → scroll to the Suppressed Listings section.
How to Fix Suppressed Listings
- Identify the suppression reason in the "Suppressed" tab
- Click "Edit" next to the affected ASIN
- Fill in the missing or incorrect attribute
- Save and resubmit — Amazon typically re-indexes the listing within 24–72 hours
For image violations, update the image, remove the old one, and allow 24 hours for the new image to process.
Impact on Business
Suppressed listings generate zero sales. For high-velocity ASINs, even 24 hours of suppression can cost hundreds or thousands in lost revenue. Regular audits (at least weekly) of the Suppressed tab are essential for maintaining catalogue health.
